How do I write a History project report?
I have never written something like this before and I need help. What are the general things to include in a history project report? I am currently basing it on my experiences at a heritage workplacement in a castle.
Also this might sound daft (because I haven’t written one before). Is the report separate from the project or is it one piece of work.
Please help. I would really appreciate it.
The assignment instructions:
Two elements:
1) short discussion of the placement and its value to the student
2)longer essay/project which may include samples/copies of the work done during the placement and discusses its wider signifdicance
Plus:
“This assessed essay/project topic of heritage management or be related more specifically to the work carried out fot the Host organisation”
You really need to talk this over with your lecturer or tutor, to get some pointers on what they are looking for, after all, this is what university is for – to help you LEARN new ways of doing things.
You could ask people in the year above yours if they have some samples of their work they could show you – NOT to copy but to get an idea of structure and what to include. Your lecturer / tutor may provide some of these kinds of pieces of work on a special web site for you all to see. It is likely others in your class would also appreciate some pointers and the lecturers should appreciate you asking, because it shows you are thinking about what and how to present your work.
From the description you have given, I would take it that you need to provide two pieces of work. The first should be written about why you chose this placement and why this particular placement was good for you as a history student, what you provided to the placement and what you learned from it. This does not necessarily have to be all about history or heritage. You may have learned people skills or management or event management skills, for instance.
The second piece of work should discuss the actual piece of work or job you undertook as your placement. I am not sure what you mean by the “Plus” section. It isn’t clear. Have you copied this correctly?
Your best course of action is to talk to your lecturer to ask them to clarify what is needed.
