Web Hosting Vps
What’s Better? VPS or Home based Web Server?
I’m a lot confused in both of these like what are the price difference in both of these as well as what makes better choice for Hosting a website or a group of websites? Please tell me the exact differences?
You’re comparing apples and oranges here. Virtual Private Server (VPS) is basicly a web server hosted by a company that you pay money to for the service. What makes it virtual is that you may have to share the physical server with other customers. On the plus side this makes it very cheap for the company and thus for you. On the down side your server may experience slow down if the other customers are getting lots of traffic even if you are not. Generally you will never know that your server is on a virtual machine versus a Dedicated server.
Of coarse if you needs are simple then you can just hire a Hosting Service and let them worry about the actual server infrastructure.
Home based web server… well thats easy. Download a free web server software, install it on a second machine, and you’re in business. You’ll most likely have to open a port on your firewall and you’ll still need to buy a DNS name unless you don’t mind your address being HTTP://65.5.5.42/ or whatever. You also have to contend with your ISP since installing a server can (in some cases) violate your contract.
By the way, if I completely lost you in that last paragraph, just pay for the hosting service. It’s not expensive.
